Defence Day (یوم دفاع or Yaum-i Difa) is celebrated as National Day to commemorate in the memory of Pakistan's successful defence against India in the 1965 War on 6 September.

It was started on 5 August, 1965.

It was ended on 6 September, 1965 due to the interference of UN.

Defence Day is celebrated on 6th September every year in Pakistan. Pakistan - India War II was fought in 1965. This was ended on 6th September and both countries stopped damaging each other by using weapons etc. on 6th September (Defence Day of Islamic Republic of Pakistan). This war financially effected both countries but none of them could really dominate. As Pakistan remained saved, Defense Day is celebrated only in Pakistan.
WHY PAKISTAN - INDIA WAR STARTED IN 1965?
It all begins with Operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir. But India retaliated by launching a full scale military attack on West Pakistan (NWFP, PUNJAB, SINDH). The basic issue behind all this was Jammu and Kashmir. India and Pakistan both countries wanted their grip on Jammu and Kashmir.
WHICH NATION CLAIMED JAMMU AND KASHMIR?
Both the nations want their own claim on Jammu and Kashmir and it was the reason the war, but both the countries are holding half piece of Jammu and Kashmir. India is holding the Jammu while the Pakistanis called their Kashmir as Azad Kashmir.
DID KASHMIRIES SUPPORT ANY NATION?
Yes, Kashmir is fairly a Muslim majority state and they support one of the Nations.
WHICH NATION THEY SUPPORTED?
They truly supported Pakistan because they want to live freely according to their needs and under Indian Forces it wasn't possible.
WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF PAK-IND WAR?
Both of the countries claimed that they are the winners and stats are also balanced. But Pakistan was defending against India and he defend his land successfully that's why it is celebrated in Pakistan at peak and one can consider Pakistan as the winner of that war.
